SHA Disburses KES 3.4 Billion for Health Services Amid NHIF Bills Dispute

The Social Health Authority (SHA) has released KES 3.4 billion to health facilities across the country to cover claims under the Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF).

The disbursement will cater for inpatient services, mental health, critical care, drug and substance abuse treatment, and surgeries.

SHA also confirmed that KES 1.09 billion has already been sent from the Primary Health Care Fund, while an additional KES 1.7 billion is being processed for dialysis, cancer care, and surgical claims. A full list of payments will be published on the SHA website soon.

Responding to reports circulating online, SHA clarified that Nyandiwa Level 4 Hospital received KES 19 million between January and June 2025 for maternity and long-term inpatient services, funds which the hospital has confirmed.

SHA CEO Dr. Mercy Mwangangi assured Kenyans of accountability and timely payments.

However, the government is facing headwinds after a court blocked Health CS Aden Duale’s newly formed committee tasked with verifying pending NHIF bills.
