Man Who ‘Makes’ Forged Travel and Health Documents Arrested in Nairobi

Detectives from the Transnational Organised Crime Unit (TOCU) have arrested a 28-year-old man in Kasarani, Nairobi, for allegedly running a forgery racket involving official health documents.

The suspect, identified as Desmond Omollo Ogutu, was apprehended in the Clayworks area following intelligence reports. A raid on his residence yielded dozens of counterfeit items, including stamps belonging to Port Health Services at Wilson Airport, a fake seal of a Port Health officer, and stamps labelled “Injectable Polio Vaccine” and “Stamaril Pasteur.” Others were marked “Gertrude Children’s Hospital” and “Dr. Desmond Ogutu.”

Police also seized 274 blank International Certificates of Vaccination and 91 single-dose vaccination cards, believed to have been destined for illegal use.

Preliminary investigations have linked Ogutu to forged yellow fever certificates found on six Somali nationals intercepted at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport on August 8, 2025. The group was reportedly being smuggled to Libya through Egypt.

Ogutu was arraigned at Kahawa Law Courts on Wednesday, but the hearing was adjourned after his lawyer failed to log in for the virtual session. He is being held at Muthaiga Police Station, with the case set for mention on August 21.
