The National Police Service (NPS) has issued a traffic advisory ahead of the highly anticipated African Nations Championship (CHAN) quarterfinal match between Kenya and Madagascar, scheduled for Friday, August 22, 2025, at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani.
In its statement, NPS said several roads around the stadium and along the Thika Superhighway will be temporarily closed, with diversions introduced to ease traffic congestion.
Motorists from Nairobi CBD heading to Thika, Juja, and Ruiru via Thika Road have been advised to use Kiambu Road at Exit 4, where a roadblock will be set up at Muthaiga. Those using the Thika Superhighway and heading to Mwiki should instead take the Ruaka–Baba Ndogo–Lucky Summer–Nairobi River–Mwiki route.
Drivers coming from Thika, Juja, and Ruiru towards the city centre are directed to use either the Northern Bypass or Kiambu Road, with a roadblock stationed at Ruiru Interchange. Motorists from Githurai to Nairobi CBD are advised to use the Githurai 44–Kiambu Road route.
Fans travelling from the city centre to Kasarani without vehicle access passes must use the service lanes at Exit 7 and Exit 8.
NPS added that additional officers have been deployed to manage the expected heavy traffic and warned that stern action will be taken against anyone flouting traffic rules.
“The National Police Service continues to work collaboratively with relevant agencies and urges all motorists to cooperate with officers on-site to ensure smooth traffic flow,” the statement read.
The advisory comes as excitement builds for the Harambee Stars’ quarterfinal clash, with thousands of fans expected to throng Kasarani for the decisive CHAN encounter.
