Murkomen Urges Kirinyaga Residents to Take Advantage of Free ID Registration

Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration, Kipchumba Murkomen, on Thursday called on Kirinyaga residents to register for national identity cards and civil documents under the government’s ongoing reforms aimed at easing access to vital services.

Speaking during the Jukwaa La Usalama tour at the Huduma Centre grounds in Kirinyaga, Murkomen said the government had streamlined the issuance of IDs by scrapping charges for first-time applicants and fast-tracking the registration process.

Kirinyaga County currently has 12 ID registration units and three civil registries handling birth and death certificates. The CS announced that an additional registry will be operationalised before the end of the year, with plans to expand services to all sub-counties once more resources are available.

Murkomen was accompanied by Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru, Kirinyaga Central MP Gachoki Gitari, County Assembly Speaker Julius Murimi, MCAs, and several senior security and administrative officials, including Deputy Inspector General (APS) Gilbert Masengeli and NACADA CEO Dr. Anthony Omerikwa.

The Interior CS emphasized that efficient access to identification documents was key to enhancing national security, service delivery, and citizen participation in government programmes.
