The Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of the Kenya Police Service, Mr. Eliud Lagat, on Friday, August 22, 2025, visited Makupa Police Station in Mombasa County as part of his ongoing assessment of police service delivery and operational readiness.
During the visit, Mr. Lagat inspected critical areas of the station, including the report office, cells, and traffic section, where he identified areas requiring improvement to enhance service to the public.
He later held a meeting with officers, focusing on welfare, mental health, and financial management, while commending them for their commitment to duty, the DIG urged officers to embrace teamwork in fighting crime, remain accountable for their actions, and steer clear of corruption.
Mr. Lagat assured officers that the National Police Service (NPS) is committed to improving working conditions, enhancing welfare, and equipping stations with adequate resources to boost efficiency.
He emphasized that Inspector General Douglas Kanja has prioritized transforming police stations and other service centres into modern institutions of excellence.
The DIG also reminded officers of their responsibility to serve citizens with dignity, noting that accountability and professionalism remain key pillars in building public confidence in policing.
Officers at Makupa Police Station welcomed the visit, describing it as an opportunity to strengthen communication between field personnel and senior leadership.
They expressed optimism that the concerns raised would be addressed to improve morale and service delivery.
The DIG was accompanied by senior regional and county security chiefs, among them Regional Staff Officer for Operations Samuel Kobina, Regional Criminal Investigations Officer Daniel Kandie, and Mombasa County Police Commander Peter Kimani.
