Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has announced renewed efforts to deepen trade and bilateral ties between Kenya and Algeria, highlighting vast opportunities in energy, agriculture, education, and aviation.
Speaking after holding talks with Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune in Algiers on Friday, Kindiki said Kenya was keen on importing oil, gas, pharmaceuticals, and fertiliser from Algeria, while Nairobi would open the Algerian market to Kenyan products such as coffee, tea, powdered milk, meat, avocados, and citrus fruits.
“There is huge potential for trade between Kenya and Algeria,” the Deputy President wrote on Facebook, confirming that both sides had agreed to fast-track negotiations to unlock new opportunities.
Kindiki also noted that Algeria’s ongoing shift to English as a medium of instruction offers a chance for Kenyan teachers to contribute their expertise. He further emphasised that launching direct flights between Nairobi and Algiers would be a critical step in enhancing trade and strengthening people-to-people ties.
The meeting between Kindiki and President Tebboune is seen as a strategic step to expand Kenya’s footprint in North Africa while diversifying its sources of energy and boosting agricultural exports.
