President William Ruto has revoked the appointment of Dr. Samier Muravvej as the non-executive chairperson of the National Syndemic Diseases Control Council (NSDCC), only months after he took up the role.
In a gazette notice dated Friday, September 6, the President confirmed that Muravvej’s position at the council had been terminated with immediate effect.
“In exercise of the powers conferred by section 6 (1) (a) of the State Corporations Act and Regulation 3 (1) (a) of the National Syndemic Diseases Control Council Order, as read together with section 51 (1) of the Interpretation and General Provisions Act, I, William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces, revoke the appointment of Samier Muravvej (Dr.),” the notice read.
However, the same gazette revealed that Dr. Muravvej had been reassigned as the non-executive chairperson of the Kenya Fisheries Service. He will serve in the new role for a three-year term, effective September 5, 2025.
“In exercise of the powers conferred by section 11 (1) (a) of the Fisheries Management and Development Act, I, William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander in Chief of the Defence Forces, appoint Samier Muravvej (Dr.) to be the non-executive chairperson of the Kenya Fisheries Service, for a period of three (3) years, with effect from the 5th September, 2025,” it added.
The reassignment comes just months after Ruto made key changes across public health agencies. On July 25, Muravvej was tapped to head the NSDCC, having previously served as chair of the Kenyatta National Hospital board.
During the same period, the President appointed Professor Fredrick Namenya Were as chairperson of the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council, while Paul Ndung’u Kariuki was named chair of the Kenya National Public Health Institute, both on three-year terms.
