The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) now says that it has commenced investigations into the gruesome murder of Nairobi city lawyer Kyalo Mbobu, who was shot dead on Tuesday evening by unknown people along Magadi Road.
In a statement on Wednesday, September 10, the DCI expressed solidarity with the victim’s family, friends, and colleagues while providing an update on the investigation into the tragic incident that occurred along Magadi Road on September 9, 2025.
The investigative agency confirmed that the shooting was immediately reported and that a team of detectives was dispatched to the scene under the supervision of Nairobi area commanders.
Crime scene specialists from the DCI Homicide Bureau, working alongside experts from the National Forensic Laboratory, conducted a thorough examination of the site and gathered crucial evidence for the ongoing probe.
“The DCI is committed to ensuring that the perpetrators of this heinous act are brought to justice. Our investigators are working diligently, employing all available resources and expertise to piece together the events surrounding this incident,” the statement read.
The directorate has appealed for public calm and cooperation during the investigation period, emphasizing their determination to deliver justice for the slain lawyer and his bereaved family.
“We further appeal to anyone with information that could assist the investigations to contact the nearest police station, #FichuaKDI hotline number 0800 722 203 or forward information confidentially to the DCI Fichua WhatsApp number 0703 970 000.” DCI stated. “More information regarding the on-going investigations will be released to the public at the appropriate time.”
The fatal attack occurred on Tuesday evening when Mbobu, a well-established Nairobi-based legal practitioner, found himself trapped in traffic along the busy Magadi Road.

Eyewitness accounts and police reports indicate that motorcycle-riding gunmen approached his stationary vehicle and opened fire without warning.
The assailants shattered the lawyer’s car windshield before discharging at least three rounds, critically injuring Mbobu, who subsequently collapsed onto his driver’s seat as shocked motorists looked on helplessly.
The attackers fled the scene immediately after the shooting.
Senate Speaker Amason Kingi expressed his devastation over the killing and demanded comprehensive investigations into the murder.
“As the country comes to terms with this chilling incident, we expect the police to carry out speedy and thorough investigations to unearth the reason and culprits behind this heinous crime and ensure justice is served,” Kingi said.
