President William Ruto has announced a massive Sh48 billion development package aimed at transforming Kisii and Nyamira counties into economic hubs.

Speaking at State House, Nairobi, where he hosted a delegation of Gusii political leaders led by Kisii Governor Simba Arati, President Ruto outlined the projects as part of his administration’s commitment to inclusive development across all regions.
In Kisii County, the government will invest in 15,000 affordable housing units valued at Sh30 billion, Sh2.5 billion worth of modern student hostels, and four state-of-the-art markets costing Sh2.4 billion to boost trade.
Nyamira County will benefit from 7,000 housing units, new student hostels, and three modern markets under projects totaling over Sh16 billion.

Additionally, more than 32,000 households across the two counties will be connected to reliable electricity, a move the President said would unlock business opportunities and support industrial growth.
The meeting was attended by ODM leader Raila Odinga, Cabinet Secretary Ogamba Migosi, and Solicitor General Shadrack Mose, underscoring the bipartisan support for the initiative.
President Ruto described the developments as a “rare and historic opportunity” to ensure prosperity reaches every part of the country.
