Deputy President Kithure Kindiki on Thursday hosted MPs from Mt Kenya region at his Karen official residence, Nairobi, for a consultative meeting.
The second-in-command said the engagement allowed them the opportunity to take stock of the progress of national government development projects and the implementation of government programmes in their areas of representation.
“We agreed on ways for the collaboration between the Executive and the Legislature to expedite the delivery of services to the people,” Kindiki said.
According to Kindiki, the 50 Members of the National Assembly and Senators were drawn from Kiambu, Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nakuru, Murang’a, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Embu, Meru and Tharaka Nithi Counties.
On February 18, Kindiki announced that he would take charge of inspecting government projects before they are officially launched to avoid public backlash.
He said his oversight would protect President William Ruto from criticism related to the commissioning of incomplete or unstarted projects.
“We must guard against ridicule directed at the President for projects launched that are not commenced or completed,” he said.
The DP stressed the importance of ensuring that government projects are fully financed and ready for completion before the President is involved in their launch.
“Before the President is engaged, I’ll make sure we have end-to-end financing to avoid embarrassing the President.”
Friday will mark the end of Ruto’s five-day development tour of Nairobi city, where he launched and commissioned various projects, including affordable housing units.
