The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has strongly refuted claims published in the Daily Nation on Friday alleging that the agency is conducting surveillance on mobile phones and other digital devices.
In a statement issued on September 12, 2025, the DCI termed the report “false and sensational,” accusing it of attempting to mislead the public and undermine the integrity of the investigative body.
While declining to divulge details due to ongoing court proceedings, the DCI assured Kenyans that it operates strictly within the law and remains committed to safeguarding citizens’ constitutional rights.
“Our commitment to upholding the rights and privacy of all Kenyans is unwavering, and we do not engage in any activities that compromise these principles,” the statement read.
The agency further urged the public to rely on verified information from official channels and avoid speculation that may erode trust in national security institutions.
