Police Seize Four Kilograms of Cannabis in Awendo Narcotics Crackdown

Police in Awendo, Migori County, have intensified their war on drugs after seizing approximately four kilograms of cannabis sativa in a crackdown along the Migori–Kisii road.

According to authorities, officers from Awendo Police Station acted on a tip-off and intercepted a motorcycle carrying two individuals on Wednesday. When signaled to stop, the pillion passenger jumped off and fled into a nearby sugarcane plantation, abandoning the rider and a suspicious package.

Upon inspection, police discovered several brooms of cannabis sativa weighing around four kilograms. The rider was arrested on the spot and taken to Awendo Police Station, where he remains in custody awaiting processing and arraignment in court. The recovered narcotics have been secured as exhibits.

The National Police Service commended the swift action of the officers and reiterated its commitment to combating drug trafficking and abuse, noting that narcotics continue to pose a serious threat to public health and safety.
