Kenya State House Spending 200 Million Shillings Daily on Delegations Raises Concern

A KTN News investigation has revealed that Kenya’s State House under President William Ruto is spending at least 200 million shillings daily—nearly 1 billion shillings every week—on hosting delegations in Nairobi.

The expenditure reportedly covers meals, transport, accommodation, and cash allowances for visiting groups.

Data from the Controller of Budget confirms that 3.6 billion shillings were withdrawn for travel and meetings over a span of 42 days.

In total, State House has spent 5.6 billion shillings on salaries, travel, and hospitality during the first nine months of the 2024/2025 financial year.

The revelations come at a time when Kenya’s public debt has surpassed 10 trillion shillings and citizens continue to face economic strain following the controversial 2024 Finance Bill.

The findings have sparked criticism of the government’s spending priorities, particularly given President Ruto’s earlier pledge of austerity measures after widespread protests against rising taxes.

So far, State House has not issued a formal response to the expenditure report.
