Prime Cabinet Secretary and Foreign Affairs CS Musalia Mudavadi announced a threefold increase in Kenya’s annual contribution to UN-Habitat, underscoring the country’s commitment to advancing sustainable urbanization and affordable housing.

Mudavadi revealed that he hosted Ms. Anacláudia Rossbach, UN Under-Secretary-General and Executive Director of UN-Habitat, for a high-level courtesy meeting where they explored ways to deepen Kenya’s partnership with the agency.

“Our contribution rises from USD 100,000 to USD 300,000, a clear signal of our support for UN-Habitat’s mission and Nairobi’s central role as a global multilateral hub,” Mudavadi said.

The discussions also focused on preparations for the upcoming High-Level Breakfast Dialogue on Adequate Housing, to be hosted by President William Ruto on the sidelines of the 80th UN General Assembly. The platform will bring together world leaders to position housing as a key pillar of sustainable development.

Mudavadi praised Ms. Rossbach for her visionary leadership and lauded UN-Habitat’s recent achievements, including the resumption of the UN-Habitat Assembly and the work of the Open-Ended Working Group on Adequate Housing for All.

He further called for more Kenyan professionals to take up roles within UN-Habitat and appreciated the agency’s technical support for transformative projects such as the Mukuru Kwa Njenga Housing initiative and the Social Housing Hub.

“Kenya remains fully committed to supporting UN-Habitat’s mandate, strengthening its presence in Nairobi, and championing inclusive, sustainable cities for generations to come,” Mudavadi affirmed.
