Five Police Officers Shot in York County, Pennsylvania, suspect dead

Five police officers were shot while serving a warrant in a rural part of Pennsylvania on Thursday afternoon, leaving several in critical condition and prompting lockdowns across York County.

The shooting unfolded shortly after 2pm near Haar and Emig roads in North Codorus Township, according to local reports. Officers from the Northern York Regional Police Department came under fire as they attempted to serve the warrant.

Three officers were said to be in grave condition and another critically injured, while a fifth officer is also being treated for gunshot wounds. The suspected gunman is believed to have died from a self-inflicted wound at the scene.

Authorities locked down schools in the Spring Grove School District and tightened security at area hospitals as the scale of the incident became clear. WellSpan York Hospital confirmed it was treating two victims in serious condition, with enhanced security protocols in place.

Lieutenant Governor Austin Davis urged residents to avoid the area and keep the officers in their thoughts. “Please send prayers to the officers and those involved in the shooting in York County,” he wrote on X, formerly Twitter. Governor Josh Shapiro travelled to the scene on Thursday evening as state officials pledged full support for the community.

The incident has left York County reeling and underlines the risks faced by officers carrying out routine law enforcement duties in small towns. As investigators work to piece together what triggered the violence, the focus remains on the recovery of the wounded and the safety of the wider community.
