Security agencies in Tot, Elgeyo Marakwet County, have received 41 illegally held firearms and accompanying ammunition, marking a significant milestone in the ongoing disarmament campaign in the region.
Authorities confirmed that the weapons were voluntarily surrendered yesterday by local residents, a move that underscores growing cooperation between security agencies and the community in efforts to curb armed violence.
The recovered firearms have been secured and are awaiting further administrative action.
The National Police Service (NPS) commended the residents who took part in the exercise, praising their commitment to peace and security. “This voluntary surrender is a major step toward restoring calm and enhancing public safety in Elgeyo Marakwet,” NPS said in a statement, urging others still holding illegal arms to come forward.

The government has intensified its disarmament efforts across the North Rift region in recent months as part of a broader strategy to end banditry and intercommunal conflict.
Authorities say such initiatives are crucial for creating a secure environment for development and economic growth.
