Police officers from Matisi Police Station in Webuye West Sub-County, Bungoma County, have arrested seven people in a spirited crackdown on illicit alcohol and unlicensed liquor.
The intelligence-led operation, carried out on Wednesday in Khalala Village, Sitikho Location, targeted the production and distribution of illegal brews and harmful substances that pose a risk to public health.
During the raid, officers seized 360 litres of Busaa, 40 litres of Kangara, and 55 litres of Chang’aa, which were being prepared for sale. The consignment was confiscated and the suspects taken into custody at Matisi Police Station.
They are expected to be processed and arraigned in court.
The National Police Service (NPS) commended the officers for their swift and coordinated action, stressing that the war against illicit brews remains a priority in the wider effort to protect communities from the devastating effects of toxic alcohol.
“The National Police Service reiterates its commitment to eradicating illicit brews and other harmful substances that endanger public health,” the statement read in part.
Authorities have urged residents to cooperate with security agencies by providing information that could help dismantle illegal brewing networks in the county.
The latest operation comes amid a nationwide push by security agencies to clamp down on second-generation alcohol and narcotics, following rising concerns over deaths, health complications, and social problems linked to their consumption.
