The National Police Service (NPS) has confirmed the death of a Kenyan police officer who went missing last week while serving under the Kenyan-led Multinational Security Support Mission (MSSM) in Haiti.
The officer was reported missing on March 25, 2025, following an ambush along the Carrefour Paye-Savien main supply route in the Pont-Sonde area of Artibonite Department.
According to the NPS, the officer’s disappearance prompted immediate search and rescue operations jointly undertaken by the MSSM and the Haitian National Police (HNP).
In a statement issued on Thursday, the NPS announced that it had received information confirming the officer’s death. The family of the fallen officer has since been notified.
“The National Police Service extends its deepest and most heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of the fallen officer and assures them of its unwavering and continued support during this time of profound sorrow,” the statement read.
The NPS added that it remains committed to its mandate in Haiti, noting that the MSSM, in collaboration with the HNP, will continue operations in line with international law while working to restore stability in the troubled Caribbean nation.
Meanwhile, the police service also confirmed that the body of Corporal Kennedy Mutuku Nzuve, who died in a road traffic accident on September 1, 2025, will arrive in Nairobi on September 26, 2025.
The NPS emphasized its continued dedication to ensuring the safety and security of Kenyans both at home and abroad, pledging support to families of officers serving in international peace and security missions.
