Authorities in Baringo County have intensified their campaign against illicit brews, arresting a suspect and seizing large quantities of outlawed alcohol in a raid at Maji Mazuri Village, Koibatek Sub-County.
The operation, carried out on Thursday by officers from Eldama Ravine Police Station, targeted the homestead of a suspect believed to be engaged in the production and distribution of illicit liquor.
During the raid, police recovered 20 litres of suspected chang’aa and an additional 40 litres of kangara, a local brew often used in the preparation of chang’aa.
The suspect was arrested on the spot and is currently being held at Eldama Ravine Police Station, pending arraignment in court. The recovered substances were secured as exhibits.
In a statement, the National Police Service (NPS) lauded the efforts of the officers and reaffirmed its commitment to eradicating illicit alcohol across the country. “These operations are part of sustained efforts to reduce alcohol-related crime and protect communities from the harmful effects of illegal brews,” NPS said.
The crackdown in Baringo comes amid nationwide enforcement actions targeting illicit alcohol, which authorities warn has contributed to health risks, crime, and social breakdown in affected communities.
