Iran on Monday executed a man it described as “one of the most important spies for Israel” in the country, state judiciary outlet Mizan reported, amid a surge in espionage-related executions tied to its conflict with Israel.
The man, identified as Bahman Choubi-asl, was convicted of collaborating with Israel’s Mossad intelligence agency and sentenced to death on charges of “corruption on earth.” Iran’s Supreme Court upheld the ruling after rejecting his appeal, Mizan said.
According to the judiciary, Mossad had recruited Choubi-asl to penetrate Iranian data systems, obtain sensitive government databases, and help create breaches in the country’s data centres.
He was also accused of gathering information on the import routes of electronic equipment and other targets linked to Tehran’s security infrastructure.
Iran and Israel have been locked in a decades-long shadow war, but tensions escalated into open conflict in June when Israel struck several sites inside Iran in operations reportedly involving Mossad commandos.
Executions of Iranians accused of spying for Israel have sharply increased this year, with at least 10 death sentences carried out in recent months, underscoring the scale of Tehran’s crackdown as regional hostilities deepen.
