A medical emergency helicopter operated by REACH Air Medical Services crashed Monday morning on a busy section of Highway 50 in Sacramento, injuring three crew members, authorities and company officials said.
No patients were on board at the time.
The helicopter went down near 59th Street on the eastbound lanes of the highway, prompting a swift response from emergency services and temporary road closures.
Sacramento Mayor Kevin McCarty confirmed on X (formerly Twitter) that all survivors were transported to local hospitals for treatment.
“We are in the process of determining the details of this situation, as well as the condition of the crew involved,” REACH said in an email to Reuters.
The company, which operates critical air transport services across the western United States, said it was cooperating with authorities to understand what led to the accident.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation. CBS News, which first reported the incident, said both the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) are expected to lead the inquiry.
As of Monday evening, neither Sacramento fire officials nor the FAA had responded to requests for additional comment.
