Kalonzo ‘Being Used’ by Opposition Leaders

Mwala MP and UDA National Organising Secretary Vincent Kawaya has cautioned Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka against what he termed as manipulation by Opposition figures seeking political survival rather than genuine partnership.

Speaking during a meeting with members of the Akamba community in Kilifi, Kawaya claimed that Opposition leaders were exploiting Kalonzo for their own convenience.

“They are only using him for convenience, not because they believe he can win,” said Kawaya. “They know President William Ruto’s political strength, and Kalonzo is simply a placeholder to help them stay relevant.”

Kawaya also criticised the recent Wiper National Delegates Conference (NDC) held at Uhuru Park, describing it as an ethnic mobilisation exercise rather than a demonstration of national appeal.

“It showed no national support, only tribal mobilisation. That meeting could as well have been held in Kitui or Makueni,” he said, dismissing the NDC as “a perception-driven event with no unifying message.”

The UDA lawmaker contrasted the Opposition’s rallies with what he described as Kenya Kwanza’s development-centred agenda. He cited ongoing infrastructure, electrification, and water projects in Ukambani and along the Coast as evidence of President Ruto’s commitment to uplifting historically marginalised areas.

“Ukambani was sidelined for decades, but Ruto is correcting that history,” Kawaya said. “He is uniting marginalised communities and giving Kamba leaders a seat at the national table.”

Kawaya’s remarks come amid renewed political manoeuvring within the Opposition, where Kalonzo is increasingly being positioned as the coalition’s potential flag bearer against Ruto in the 2027 general election.
