The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has announced temporary traffic disruption along both service lanes of the Thika Superhighway (A2) at Kihunguro to facilitate the construction of the Kihunguro footbridge.
According to a public notice issued on Thursday, the disruption will affect both the Nairobi-bound and Thika-bound service lanes from Monday, October 20, 2025, to Saturday, December 20, 2025.
KeNHA said the closure is necessary to allow construction works on the footbridge column bases and stub columns at the section. The authority urged motorists to follow the proposed traffic management plan provided and to cooperate with traffic marshals and police officers on site to ensure smooth traffic flow and safety.
Motorists using the busy highway are advised to exercise caution and expect minor delays during the construction period.
The project is part of KeNHA’s continued efforts to enhance road safety and pedestrian access along major highways, with the Kihunguro footbridge expected to ease pedestrian movement and reduce accidents in the area.
