Machakos MCA On the Verge of Losing His Seat After Campaigning for Rival Party

The political career of Kalama Ward MCA Boniface Maeke Musyimi hangs in the balance after Chama Cha Uzalendo (CCU) declared that he is deemed to have resigned from the party for campaigning for a rival candidate.

The party’s Disciplinary Committee said Mr Maeke violated Section 14A of the Political Parties Act by promoting the interests of the Maendeleo Chap Chap Party during the Mumbuni North Ward by-election.

CCU had its own candidate, Mr Richard Nzioki Mbolu, in the contest.

In a determination issued on Monday, the committee said Mr Maeke’s written response to a notice to show cause dated September 26 was unsatisfactory and diversionary.

Video evidence presented to the committee reportedly showed him administering oaths and urging voters to support Maendeleo Chap Chap candidate Mr Harrison Wambua.

“The verified video evidence shows you actively administering oaths urging voters to support the Maendeleo Chap Chap candidate. This goes beyond attendance and amounts to open campaigning for a rival party,” said the committee chairperson, Mr Charles Mwanza Musyoki.

The committee summoned Mr Maeke to appear before it on October 21 at the party’s offices in Machakos Town to defend himself.

The party warned that failure to attend would lead to a final decision being made in his absence and notification of the Registrar of Political Parties within seven days.

Mr Maeke, however, dismissed the action as politically motivated. “This is nothing but a political witch-hunt. CCU has structured ways of handling internal matters, and what is being done to me is not genuine,” he said.

He accused the party’s Secretary-General, Mr Sadjah, of serving the interests of Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti instead of focusing on strengthening the party.

He claimed that Mr Sadjah’s wife, a nominated MCA, has been openly supporting the Wiper Party without facing disciplinary action.

Mr Maeke’s links with President William Ruto’s administration have reportedly strained his relationship with CCU’s leadership.

He has also been a controversial figure since 2023 when county askaris allegedly stripped him of his trousers during a confrontation said to have been ordered by Governor Ndeti.
