Nairobi woman has been left reeling after being kicked out of a wedding lineup for one reason that has shocked social media. She mourned Raila Odinga.
Let us call her Violet because she promised to share on condition of anonymity… Vee,23, was part of a bridal team for a church wedding in Nairobi County.
When news of Raila’s death broke, she, like many Kenyans, felt the loss deeply.
She posted a simple tribute on her Instagram story, sharing a picture of the late opposition leader.
Minutes later, her phone started buzzing with messages from the bride herself. A 26 yearold woman…
“How can you mourn that man?” the bride wrote.
“You know what he did to the Gen Z struggle? He sided with the government that killed over 60 youths during the June protests. I am ashamed of you. You are out of the bridal party.”
A shocked Vee went to bed angry and responded the next morning.
“So mourning someone makes me your enemy now? Raila fought for your right to even criticize him. Everyone is entitled to their opinion.”
To this, the bride fired back, accusing Vee of gaslighting her and trying to twist the situation. She claimed Vee was playing victim instead of owning up to “celebrating a man who betrayed the youth.”
According to the bride and many young Kenyans online, Raila’s image was tainted in 2024 after he went to bed with the government during the Gen Z protests.
To them, that moment marked the end of the revolution and, for Vee, the end of a friendship.
