Veteran KBC and KTN broadcaster Sammy Lui Wang’ondu has passed away.
Wang’ondu’s death was confirmed by his son, Chris, on the afternoon of Thursday, October 23, although the cause of his death is yet to be made public.
Preliminary reports indicate the veteran journalist and State events MC passed away in his home in Subukia, Nakuru county.
Lui had arguably one of the most recognisable voices in media in his prime; in particular, he once worked as a director of State functions.
His voice was particularly distinct during the Moi era and transcended to Mwai Kibaki’s era when the latter assumed power in 2002.
His voice powered through the reign of former and late President Daniel Moi, third President Mwai Kibaki and a bit of the retired President Uhuru Kenyatta’s regime.
Lui was known to many as a presidential MC whose voice has reverberated across many stadiums and functions in the country graced by the president.
His voice was soothing, carried an unmatched command of English, and was instantly recognisable.
