German Embassy Schedules Concert in Honour of Raila

The German Embassy in Kenya has scheduled a concert at the Kenya National Theatre to honor the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

In a statement shared on Thursday, October 30, Sifuna revealed that the concert announcement came during a meeting between members of the German Parliament and their Kenyan counterparts at Parliament Buildings.

The German delegation was on an official visit to Kenya to strengthen bilateral relations between the two nations.

“We welcomed a delegation of members of the German Parliament who were on an official visit to the Kenyan Parliament. Germany and Kenya have had long-standing relations, and we intend to cement this further through our respective Parliaments,” the statement read.

“As SG of ODM I was happy to learn that the German Embassy has scheduled a concert in honor of Baba at the Kenya National Theatre. Thank you for the honor.” Sifuna stated.

The late Raila Odinga died on October 15, 2025, at the age of 80, following a heart attack during his morning exercise at a wellness center in Kochi, India.

He was interred four days later on October 19 at his family’s ancestral compound in Kang’o Ka Jaramogi, Bondo, in Siaya County.

His burial followed his express wishes to be laid to rest within 72 hours.

At the ceremony, he was interred with his signature hat and fly whisk, symbolic items that became synonymous with his decades-long political career.

The state funeral included full military honors, with the Kenya Defence Forces performing a 17-gun salute. President William Ruto posthumously awarded him the Order of the Golden Heart of Kenya (C.G.H.), the country’s highest honor, recognizing his exceptional service.

His widow, Mama Ida Odinga, and their children, along with his siblings, including Siaya Senator Oburu Odinga and Kisumu Woman Representative Ruth Odinga, attended the private ceremony.

Since the burial, the Odinga family home at Opoda farm in Bondo has received a steady stream of visitors offering condolences.

Notable figures, including KANU leader Gideon Moi, former Ghanaian President Nana Akufo-Addo, and Margaret Nyokabi, widow of the late first Nyeri Governor Nderitu Gachagua, have visited to pay their respects. The ODM Women Caucus also visited to offer support to Mama Ida.
