Police in Meru County have intensified their crackdown on illicit brews and drug abuse, dismantling a major Chang’aa brewing den during an operation in Laare, Igembe North Sub-County.
During the raid, officers stormed a homestead suspected to be a major production site for the illicit liquor. The suspect managed to flee moments before police gained entry, but an active brewing operation was uncovered within the compound.
Authorities seized several items of brewing apparatus and quantities of Chang’aa, all of which were taken to the local police station as exhibits pending further investigation. Efforts are underway to trace and arrest the suspect behind the illegal enterprise.
In a statement, the National Police Service (NPS) reaffirmed its commitment to protecting public health and safety by sustaining operations against the manufacture and sale of illegal alcohol.
