Kenyan hip-hop artist Henry Ohanga, popularly known as Octopizzo, has announced he will run for the Kibra Parliamentary seat in the 2027 General Election.
In a statement via X on Tuesday, November 4, Octopizzo said his name will be on the ballot in the 2027 election.
The renowned musician was responding to a social media user who had urged him to step into the late Raila Odinga’s shoes and continue fighting for social justice.
“I completely understand, and we will continue to mourn; every undemocratic act will always remind us of him.
“I have heard your request, and inshallah you will see my name on the ballot in Kibra,” said Octopizzo.
The announcement came after Octopizzo said Raila’s passing away has unsettled the political landscape, leaving both the opposition and government appearing scattered.
The rapper argued that many politicians depended on Raila’s influence rather than their own convictions.
“Raila Odinga steps back, and the whole system shakes. ODM is kind of confused, opposition is scattered, and even the government looks lost. Turns out many weren’t leaders; they were just echoing Baba for tribal applause and fake validation.
“Now the script is gone, politics feels like survival mode till 2027. No direction. No conviction. Just noise,” he stated.
Further, Octopizzo urged young leaders to step up and run for political seats, saying the country deserves courageous leaders.
“This is the moment for young, fearless leaders to rise, not followers in designer suits pretending to be brave. Kenya deserves integrity, courage and delivery, creative leadership, not recycled politics. We don’t need more politicians. We need leaders uncompromising, unbought, unafraid,” he added.
Octopizzo is the latest musician to announce political ambitions ahead of the 2027 general election.
Musician Stephen Karuga Kimani, popularly known as KRG the Don, has hinted at vying for the Nairobi Senatorial seat in the 2027 General Election.
KRG hinted at his 2027 political ambitions in an Instagram post, where he shared a photo of himself alongside Siaya Governor James Orengo.
“Siaya Governor Hon. James Orengo and Nairobi Senator (2027) Hon. Stephen Karuga Kimani,” he stated.
Meanwhile, Lang’ata MP Phelix Odiwuor, popularly known as Jalang’o, has urged comedian Eric Omondi to contest for the Embakasi East Parliamentary seat in the 2027 General Election.
In a statement, Jalang’o said it would be strategic for Omondi to vie in Embakasi East, noting that the current MP, Babu Owino, is eyeing the Nairobi Governorship in 2027.
“When people have confidence in what you do! I thank the people of Lang’ata for trusting me with this job! Less politics, more work. Eric Omondi, call me so we can talk, leave me this crew of yours and go vie for Embakasi East, Babu is moving up!” Jalang’o stated.
