Kenyan rapper Henry Ohanga, popularly known as Octopizzo, has announced his intention to run for the Kibra parliamentary seat in the 2027 general election, marking his entry into active politics.
In a statement shared on his social media platforms, the artist who was born and raised in Kibera said his decision follows persistent calls from residents urging him to use his influence and experience to champion community development and youth empowerment.
Octopizzo highlighted his commitment to tackling poverty, unemployment, and social inequality, issues he said continue to affect young people in Nairobi’s informal settlements.
The declaration has sparked widespread reaction online, with many supporters praising his longstanding record in community activism and mentorship programs, while critics questioned whether his move into politics will overcome the challenges that have faced other entertainers who ventured into public office.
