The Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) has announced a temporary traffic disruption along Ngong Road around the Junction Mall area to allow ongoing construction of a new flyover.
In a statement posted on its X account on Thursday, November 6, 2025, KURA said the disruption will begin on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, and continue until Wednesday, December 10, 2025.
The roadworks will take place at night between 8:00 pm and 5:00 am daily, except on Sundays.
According to the authority, the temporary closure will allow engineers to erect a steel structure for the flyover, which is part of ongoing efforts to ease congestion along one of Nairobi’s busiest roads.
The project is among several infrastructure upgrades aimed at improving traffic flow and reducing travel time within the city.
KURA said traffic will be diverted between the Nairobi City County Training School and the Kenya Science Campus to allow two-way movement within the affected section.
The diversion plan is expected to help reduce major traffic build-up during the night works.
“Motorists are advised to exercise caution when approaching the affected section and to observe all traffic signs and directions issued by police officers and traffic marshals who will be on site to ensure smooth traffic flow,” the authority stated.
The agency urged road users to plan their journeys in advance and consider alternative routes where possible.
It also assured the public that its team would work within the announced schedule to minimise inconvenience.
KURA apologised for the disruption, noting that such measures are necessary to complete key road improvement works safely and efficiently.
The authority reiterated its commitment to transforming urban mobility through better road infrastructure and enhanced safety measures for both motorists and pedestrians.
Once completed, the Ngong Road flyover is expected to ease movement around the Junction Mall area, a section that often experiences heavy traffic, especially during peak hours.
The project forms part of the broader plan to modernise Nairobi’s road network and support the city’s growing transport demands.
