Bloggers Face Ksh 20 Million Lawsuit for Linking MP to Principal’s Disappearance

By John Peter and Andrew Kariuki

The mysterious disappearance of Mr. Simon Isiaho Shange, the Principal of Munyuki High School in Lugari Constituency, has taken a dramatic turn after Lugari MP Hon. Nabii Nabwera threatened to sue three bloggers for allegedly linking him to the incident.

According to reports, Mr. Shange went missing on Monday, November 3, 2025, after being involved in what witnesses described as a minor road accident along the busy Eldoret Malaba Highway.

Although his vehicle was later found, the principal himself vanished without a trace, leaving the community in shock and confusion.

The disappearance has not only unsettled residents of Lugari but also sparked a heated debate online after several bloggers posted claims attempting to connect the MP to the incident.

Through his lawyer, Danstan Omari, Hon. Nabwera has urged the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to launch a comprehensive probe into the matter to establish the truth.

The lawyer emphasized that the issue should not be politicized, noting that the MP is equally disturbed by the mysterious disappearance and wants the authorities to handle the investigation professionally.

Omari stated that his client has already instructed him to write to the DCI to ensure all leads are pursued and that the truth about the principal’s whereabouts is uncovered.

At the same time, the MP has expressed outrage over what he describes as a malicious smear campaign on social media aimed at tarnishing his reputation.

Lawyer Danstan Omari revealed that three individuals, namely Peter Amunga, George Opunga Tamata, and Simon Asievela, had published posts on Facebook suggesting that the MP had a hand in the disappearance of the Munyuki High School principal.

According to Omari, these posts are defamatory and have caused significant harm to the MP’s reputation both locally and nationally.

He further disclosed that demand letters have been issued to the three bloggers, giving them twelve hours to accept liability, issue public apologies, delete the defamatory posts, and compensate the MP for the damages caused.

The lawyer added that failure to comply within the stipulated time would result in immediate legal action starting Monday, with each blogger facing a demand of twenty million shillings in compensation for defamation.

He condemned the false social media claims as reckless, misleading, and intended to incite political tension in Lugari.

Omari warned that spreading unverified and defamatory statements regarding such a sensitive matter not only violates the law but also hinders police investigations and causes unnecessary panic in the community.

Meanwhile, several posts and discussions have continued to circulate online, particularly on pages such as Malava Online, Kakamega Post, and Lugari Watchdog Forum.

Some of these posts alleged that the principal had fallen out with the MP over the management of school funds and football programs sponsored through the Constituency Development Fund (CDF).

Others, however, dismissed the claims as baseless and politically motivated attempts to discredit Hon. Nabwera.

The MP’s legal team has since urged residents and social media users to remain calm and allow investigative authorities to handle the matter objectively.

Lawyer Danstan Omari concluded by calling on all parties to respect the legal process and avoid using social media to spread propaganda or unverified claims.

He emphasized that Hon. Nabwera is focused on ensuring that justice prevails and that the missing principal is found, either safe or accounted for.

He also reminded bloggers and internet users that defamation is a serious legal offence punishable by heavy fines and damages.

As the search for Mr. Simon Isiaho Shange continues, tension remains high in Lugari as residents wait anxiously for answers.

The case has drawn widespread attention across Kakamega County and beyond, highlighting growing concerns about the safety of educators and the power of social media to shape public opinion before facts are established.

For now, the fate of the missing principal remains unknown, and the community can only hope for his safe return as investigations intensify.
