Betty Bayo’s Health Deteriorated Last Week, Family Reveals

A family spokesperson has shared heartbreaking details about the late gospel artist Betty Bayo’s illness and her final moments before her untimely death.

In a statement released on Monday, November 10, shortly after her passing, the family confirmed that the “11th Hour” hitmaker had been undergoing treatment for blood cancer at Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH).

Describing her death as a profound loss to both her family and the gospel community, the spokesperson revealed that Betty had been hospitalized for most of November before she succumbed to the illness.

“We want to tell the public that today at 1:03 p.m., we lost Betty Bayo. It is no longer a rumour; it is the truth,” the spokesperson stated during a media briefing.

According to the family, Betty was initially diagnosed with acute mild leukaemia, a form of blood cancer that caused excessive bleeding.

Though her family was aware of the diagnosis, her condition worsened rapidly in recent weeks, requiring admission to the intensive care unit.

“Betty had been unwell since last week. She was transferred to KNH on Friday due to excessive bleeding. The doctors did all they could, but the will of God has prevailed,” the family said.

Betty’s ex-husband, Pastor Victor Kanyari, was present at KNH during the family briefing and later mourned her on social media. The two shared two children together.

Following her passing, arrangements began to transfer Betty Bayo’s body from KNH to the Kenyatta University Referral Mortuary, as the family continues to plan her burial. The date will be announced later.

Beyond her musical achievements, Betty Bayo was admired for her authenticity and openness about her personal struggles.

In her later years, she became a motivational speaker and content creator, inspiring many with her messages of faith, resilience, and healing.
