Former SHA CEO Elijah Wachira Accused of Misappropriating KSh 17.5 Million

Chief Executive Officer Elijah Wachira is facing allegations of misappropriating Ksh 17.5 million through fraudulent medical claims. According to preliminary investigations, the funds were allegedly paid for non-existent medical services between October 2024 and May 2025.

Former Social Health Authority (SHA) Chief Executive Officer Elijah Wachira is facing allegations of misappropriating Ksh 17.5 million through fraudulent medical claims submitted via Archprime Medical Clinic in Oyugis, Homa Bay County.

According to preliminary investigations, the funds were allegedly paid for non-existent medical services between October 2024 and May 2025.

Wachira, who was ousted by the SHA board over claims of mismanagement, is accused alongside other officials of conspiracy, falsifying records and abuse of office in connection with the ongoing fraud probe.

He pleaded not guilty to all counts brought before him and was released on a case bail of Ksh 300,000 on condition he provides two contact persons. 

The matter is under active investigation, with relevant agencies expected to determine whether criminal charges will be filed.
