President William Ruto has unveiled a series of health interventions aimed at improving primary healthcare and expanding access to diagnostic services under the Social Health Authority (SHA).
The government plans to modernize public health facilities through the National Equipment Service Programme, supplying counties with MRI, CT, X-ray, and ultrasound machines. Additionally, a new Level 4 hospital will be constructed in Mutito, with an allocated budget of KSh 200 million.
In Makueni County, President Ruto confirmed a KSh 3 billion investment in diagnostic equipment, including digital X-rays, ultrasound, MRI machines, and laboratory instruments, all fully financed by SHA. The President also directed the Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (KEMSA) to deliver medicines directly to health facilities, reducing logistical delays.
The initiative forms part of a broader push to enhance healthcare access, reduce out-of-pocket costs, and encourage Kenyans to register with SHA to benefit from services without additional payments.
President Ruto emphasized that these measures will strengthen the healthcare system’s capacity, improve service delivery, and ensure that quality care is accessible to all citizens, particularly in underserved areas.
