The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission has welcomed the ruling on the Ksh. 198 Million Maize scandal, implicating Sirisia MP Hon. John Waluke, and Grace Wakhungu – By Gerald Gekara.
“Big boost for the fight against corruption as the Courts find Grace Wakhungu & Hon. John Waluke guilty of corruption in the procurement of 40,000 metric tons of maize to the NCPB worth Kshs. 577M. A sum of Kshs. 297M had already been paid on the basis of the impugned contract” EACC said.
In a tweet communicating their satisfaction, EACC outlined that Ms. Wakhungu was found guilty of uttering a false document, by presenting a forged invoice during the arbitration proceedings.

This, EACC says, led to the irregular payment of Kshs. 297M.
The scandal dates back to 2004 when the National Cereals and Produce Board advertised a tender for the provision of 180,000 tonnes of white maize.
Walukhe, Ms. Wakhungu and their company Erad Suppliers & General Contracts were adversely mentioned in the scandal, leading to the arraignment of both Waluke and Ms. Wakhungu.
The two will be remanded until June 25th, when they will appear for sentencing.
