FIFA has officially lifted restrictions on development funding to the Football Kenya Federation (FKF), clearing the way for the federation to access critical resources meant to revive and grow Kenyan football.
The move is expected to give a significant boost to grassroots programmes, infrastructure development and capacity building, areas that had been starved of funding following governance concerns at the federation.
In a letter dated December 15, 2025, FIFA confirmed that its Governance, Audit and Compliance Committee (GACC) had reviewed FKF’s progress and approved the immediate resumption of funding under the FIFA Forward Programme.
The decision was reached during a GACC meeting held on December 8, 2025, in Paris.
FIFA said FKF had made notable strides in implementing corrective measures agreed on after the 2024 central audit review. The improvements, particularly in financial management and governance structures, convinced the committee that the federation was back on track.
“The Governance, Audit and Compliance Committee has decided that the standard release of development funding under the Forward Programme is to be resumed with immediate effect,” FIFA said in the letter addressed to FKF General Secretary Harold Ndege.
While welcoming the progress, FIFA cautioned that close monitoring would continue. FKF will remain subject to a monthly reporting requirement on how FIFA Forward funds are utilised, at least until the next GACC meeting scheduled for March 2026.
The global football body also urged FKF to sustain the ongoing reforms to ensure long-term accountability and compliance with FIFA regulations.
FIFA further assured the Kenyan federation of continued technical backing, noting that its Member Associations Services – Financial Governance Team remains available to support FKF as it strengthens governance systems.
The decision marks a key milestone for FKF as it seeks to restore confidence, stabilise its finances and refocus on developing the game at all levels across the country.
