Five days after a gunman killed two people and injured nine others at Brown University, investigators have yet to identify a suspect, leaving the Providence community on edge.
The investigation has shifted to a renewed public appeal. On Wednesday, authorities released a photo of an individual they believe was in close proximity to their primary person of interest.
This followed the release of enhanced CCTV footage the previous day, showing the person of interest—dressed in dark clothing—walking near the university two hours before the attack.
Providence Police Chief Oscar Perez stated the newly identified person is someone they want to speak with who “may have information relevant to the investigation.” Detectives have been canvassing neighborhoods for home security footage to trace the suspect’s movements.
Addressing frustrations over the pace of the investigation, Rhode Island Attorney General Peter Neronha expressed confidence. “I believe the shooter will be caught,” Neronha said, “and it is just a matter of time before we catch him.”
Police continue to ask the public for both patience and any information that could aid the manhunt.
