In Wake of Bondi Attack, Australian PM Announces Major Intelligence Review

Australia Launches Security Review, Observes National Day of Mourning After Bondi Attack

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has announced a major review of police and intelligence agencies following last weekend’s deadly attack at Bondi Beach, which left 15 people dead.

“The ISIS-inspired atrocity last Sunday reinforces the rapidly changing security environment in our nation,” Albanese said. “Our security agencies must be in the best position to respond.”

The announcement came as Australia observed a national day of reflection on Sunday, exactly one week after the shooting at a Jewish festival. Amid tight security, the country paused for a minute of silence at 18:47 local time—the moment the attack began.
