CS Murkomen Reviews Correctional Services Priorities for 2026

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has called for a focused alignment of departmental priorities within the State Department for Correctional Services to advance the Kenya Kwanza administration’s development agenda for 2026.

This morning, CS Murkomen convened a high-level meeting with senior officials from the department to review key priorities and strategise on effective implementation.

He highlighted several critical areas of focus, including the implementation of Presidential Directives on freeing up prison land in select towns for the Affordable Housing Programme, and accelerating the use of underutilised prison land to boost food production.

Other priorities discussed included the enhanced commercialisation of prison industries, construction of institutional housing for officers, and the completion of ongoing and stalled projects within correctional facilities.

Present at the meeting were the Principal Secretary for Correctional Services, Dr Salome Beacco, the Commissioner General of Prisons, Patrick Aranduh, and other senior officials.

CS Murkomen emphasised the need for departments to remain focused and efficient, ensuring that resources and projects directly contribute to national development objectives and the broader Kenya Kwanza vision.
