Gor Mahia reclaim top spot after 3-2 comeback victory over Murang’a Seal

Gor Mahia produced a thrilling comeback victory over Murang’a Seal, winning 3–2 after going two goals behind early in an electrifying FKF Premier League clash at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani.

Murang’a Seal stunned Gor Mahia early at Kasarani, racing into a two-goal lead inside the opening 30 minutes and threatening to extend their ten-match unbeaten streak.

JThe visitors announced their intent just four minutes in when Joe Waithira powered a shot through the Gor Mahia defence, anchored by Michael Kibwage and Sylvester Owino, to beat goalkeeper Gad Mathews and give Murang’a a 1–0 lead.

Murang’a doubled their advantage in the 28th minute through Memusi, who cleverly assessed Mathews’ positioning before delicately looping the ball into the net for a superb second goal. However, Memusi’s night ended shortly after as he picked up an injury and was replaced by Lucas Maina.

Gor Mahia struggled to break through before the interval, with Alpha Onyango firing wide from distance in the 42nd minute and Samuel Kapen failing to capitalise on a well-weighted pass moments later. Murang’a went into the break deservedly 2–0 up.

Head coach Charles Akonnor rang the changes at half-time, introducing Ebenezer Adukwaw and Enock Morrison, and the substitutions paid immediate dividends.

In the 47th minute, a goalkeeping error by Murang’a keeper Mustapha proved costly. After a neat exchange involving Onyango, Kapen and Bryton Onyona, Mustapha spilt Onyona’s effort, allowing Felix Oluoch Mboya to pounce and pull one back.

Barely two minutes later, Gor were level. Paul Ochuoga struck to make it 2–2, shifting momentum firmly in the hosts’ favour.

Murang’a had chances to restore their lead, notably when Waithira’s attempted chip was well read by Mathews in the 59th minute. Both sides made further changes as the game opened up, with Gor pushing relentlessly for a winner.

The decisive moment arrived in the 82nd minute, when super substitute Ebenezer Assifuah punished a defensive lapse from Murang’a, finishing calmly from a low Ochuoga pass to seal Gor Mahia’s comeback and make it 3–2.

Late chances fell Gor’s way, including an opportunity for Oluoch before he was withdrawn, while Murang’a pushed in vain for an equaliser. The final whistle confirmed a statement victory for Gor Mahia, snapping Murang’a Seal’s long unbeaten run and underlining the champions’ title credentials.
