Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) confirmed that three recruits passed away on January 29, 2026, during a routine endurance exercise. The incident occurred at the Defence Forces Recruits Training School (DFRTS) in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County.
According to an official KDF statement, the recruits developed medical complications during a scheduled endurance drill.
On-site medical personnel provided immediate assistance before the recruits were evacuated to Eldoret Regional Hospital for advanced care, where they were later pronounced dead.
KDF has formally notified the families of the deceased and is providing the necessary support.A thorough investigation has been launched in accordance with military procedures to determine the exact circumstances and improve future safety protocols.
This tragedy follows recent reports of other recruitment-related fatalities, including a police recruit who died during a morning jog at Kiganjo earlier this month.
