Wilson Sossion joins the battle for TSC CEO seat

Sossion is reportedly competing against other high-profile figures, including former Basic Education PS Julius Jwan.

Sossion, the former Secretary-General of the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT), has emerged as a key candidate for the Chief Executive Officer position at the Teachers Service Commission (TSC).

The race has intensified following a January 29, 2026, High Court ruling that dismissed a petition challenging the recruitment process, effectively lifting an injunction that had frozen the search since May 2025.

Sossion is reportedly competing against other high-profile figures, including former Basic Education PS Julius Jwan.
Eveleen Mitei is currently serving as the Acting CEO. She took over after the retirement of Dr. Nancy Macharia, whose second five-year term ended on June 30, 2025.

To qualify for the role, candidates must hold a degree in education, have at least 10 years of experience in education management or administration, and meet the integrity standards of Chapter Six of the Constitution.

While eyeing the TSC top job, reports also suggest Sossion might consider a return to KNUT leadership in the 2026 elections, setting up a potential clash with incumbent Collins Oyuu.

The appointment of the 10th CEO will be a pivotal moment for the commission as it manages over 350,000 teachers and navigates ongoing reforms like the Competence-Based Curriculum(CBC)
