Savula joins UDA after leaving DAP-K, pledging a delivery of 2.6 million votes from Western Kenya

Following his move, Savula announced he will vie for the Kakamega Governor seat on a UDA ticket, challenging his current boss, Fernandes Barasa.

Kakamega Deputy Governor Ayub Savula has formally defected from the Democratic Action Party-Kenya (DAP-K) to the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), as reported on February 3, 2026.

Savula has vowed to mobilize and deliver 2.6 million votes from the Western Kenya region to President William Ruto in the 2027 General Election.

Following his move, Savula announced he will vie for the Kakamega Governor seat on a UDA ticket, challenging his current boss, Fernandes Barasa.

He has been entrusted with a key grassroots mobilization role in Western Kenya, serving as a deputy to Bungoma Governor Kenneth Lusaka to aggressively sell the Kenya Kwanza agenda.

Savula stated he can no longer remain in the opposition, claiming it has “nothing to offer” and that his focus is now on region-wide development through the government.

The defection follows his registration as a UDA aspirant and his attendance at a major UDA aspirants’ meeting in Nairobi on February 4, 2026.

This move marks a significant political realignment in the “Mulembe nation,” potentially weakening the Eugene Wamalwa-led DAP-K ahead of the next election cycle.
