Busia Governor Paul Otuoma appeared before the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, for questioning regarding a Sh1.4 billion graft investigation.Â
Irregular award of tenders and payments totaling over Sh1.4 billion to 26 proxy companies allegedly linked to family members and associates of senior county officials between the 2022/23 and 2024/25 financial years.
The EACC is specifically probing claims that Sh90 million was paid to four private entities allegedly linked directly to the Governor.
Investigators also grilled Otuoma over the construction of this yard in the 2023/24 financial year. It is alleged that 2.4 hectares of public land were leased to a private contractor for 25 years without a proper tendering process.
The summons follows a wider investigation that included search operations in August 2025 at the homes and offices of several senior Busia County officials, including three CEC members and a chief officer.Â
Governor Otuoma arrived at the EACC Western Regional Offices in Bungoma at 9:30 am to record his statement. The commission has stated that no conclusions have been reached yet and the investigations are ongoing.
