GEMA to ODM: DP position belongs to the mountain, not the lake

GEMA leaders have declared that the DP position belongs to them and its non-negotiable.
Speaking in Nyeri, MP Dancan Mathenge told those eying for the position to concentrate elsewhere.
The leaders were reacting to suggestions from ODM that they are eying for the position in 2027, currently held by Professor Kithure Kindiki who succeeded DCP leader Rigathi Gachagua after the impeachment.

Duncan Mathenge emphasized the region’s hold on the deputy presidency, stating it is part of earlier political agreements that should not be reopened for debate. This was reinforced by other Mt. Kenya leaders maintaining that it’s non-negotiable stance, citing the significant voting power of Mount Kenya and the competence of the current Deputy President.

Some of the UDA leaders have issued warning that if the DP seat is not retained for the region, leaders and voters from Mt. Kenya may consider exiting the broad-based government arrangement.

The current office holder Prof. Kithure Kindiki on his side has dismissed succession talk stating that the seat is going nowhere.

Other regions have also expressed interest for the slot, endorsing PCS Musalia Mudavadi to deputize Ruto in 2027.

These declarations come amid reports that the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) is seeking the DP slot in future political agreements with the ruling UDA party.
The battle for the DP position comes at a time when GEMA is in political limbo following a fallout out between Gachagua and President Ruto.
