The National Police Service (NPS), under the leadership of the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Douglas Kanja, today, 3rd March 2026, held a biannual engagement meeting with the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) at Jogoo House, Nairobi. The Vice Chairperson, Ms. Ann Wanjiku, led the IPOA delegation.
Held in the spirit of collaboration and partnership, and in recognition of the complementary mandates of the two institutions, the meeting brought together senior leadership from both sides to strengthen cooperation and promote sustained institutional dialogue.
The engagement is part of ongoing efforts to enhance mutual understanding and support the effective delivery of each organisation’s mandate.

Chairing the meeting, Inspector General Kanja underscored the importance of regular institutional engagements, noting that continuous dialogue promotes the early resolution of oversight concerns, improves coordination in investigations and reforms, and enhances understanding of both operational and oversight challenges.
The Inspector General emphasised that both institutions are established and anchored in law, and that their respective mandates must be exercised fully and collaboratively.
He reaffirmed the Service’s zero-tolerance stance on indiscipline among police officers, reiterating that the NPS operates strictly within the confines of the law.

In her remarks, the IPOA Vice Chairperson, Ms. Ann Wanjiku, emphasised the value of such engagements in addressing areas of concern and fostering constructive collaboration between the two organisations. The meeting further deliberated on areas of mutual support and strengthened collaboration.
The Inspector General was flanked by the Deputy Inspector General of the Kenya Police Service, Mr. Eliud Lagat; the Deputy Inspector General of the Administration Police Service, Mr. Gilbert Masengeli; and the Director of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, Mr. Mohammed Amin, among other senior leaders and commanders.
