Fernandes overtakes Beckham to set Man Utd assists record

Bruno Fernandes has overtaken David Beckham as Manchester United’s most prolific provider of assists in a single Premier League season, with his two against Aston Villa taking him to 16 for the 2025/26 campaign.

Beckham’s club-record tally of 15 assists in the 1999/00 season was surpassed by Fernandes on Sunday as he inspired a 3-1 win for the Red Devils.

The Portuguese notched his 15th assist of the current campaign when he delivered a pinpoint corner for Casemiro to head home in the 53rd minute. That was Fernandes’ ninth dead-ball assist in 2025/26; he then produced his seventh in open play, with a sublime pass for Matheus Cunha to put Michael Carrick’s side 2-0 ahead.

It was a fitting way  for Fernandes to break Beckham’s club record that had stood for over two decades.

He is also just the third Man Utd player in the Premier League era to reach 100 goals and 100 assists in all competitions, joining an elite group with Wayne Rooney and Ryan Giggs.

The Man Utd talisman could yet break the record for the most Premier League assists in a season, 20, which is jointly held by Thierry Henry (2002/03) and Kevin De Bruyne (2019/20).

He needs to assist only five more goals for Man Utd in their remaining eight matches to set a new record of 21.
