The Hansard Association of Kenya (HAK) has begun preparations for the eighth annual HAK conference, expected to be held later in the year.
The meeting, hosted by the County Assembly of Samburu and also attended by representatives of hansard practitioners from the National Assembly, the Senate and from across the 47 County Assemblies will also review key findings and recommendations from last year’s conference held in Mombasa in May 2025.

Last year’s conference was held under the theme “The Place of Hansard in Good Governance and Advancement of Democracy” from 11th to 17th May 2025.
HAK endavours to bring together key stakeholders from legislatures, professional bodies, academia, and regional partners to deliberate on strengthening hansard reporting systems.

Among the comprehensive recommendations from last year’s conference were strategies on how to improve inclusivity, standardisation, technological adoption, institutional capacity, and policy alignment within Kenyan legislatures.
The meeting will also review some of the Papers submitted by diverse schollars and hansard practitioners during last year’s conference.

Clerk of the Samburu County Assembly Mr. Fred Lenapeer who officially opened the meeting appreciated the HAK undertaking as a noble and progressive initiative in promoting peer learning and exchange among Kenyan legislatures at the National and County levels in advancement of democracy, devolution and good governance among other aspects of the Constitution of Kenya 2010.
Acting Director of Hansard for Hansard and Audio Services Mr. Stephen Mutungi in the National Assembly challenged the HAK leadership to consider broadening the exchanges in future beyond the Country to draw more experiences from among other Legislatures in the Common Wealth and other jurisdictions.
The meeting also reviewed key challenges from the last meeting.
