The National Police Service (NPS) has announced heightened security measures and intensified traffic enforcement across the country as schools close and the Easter holiday approaches.
In a press release dated March 31, 2026, the Office of the Inspector General assured Kenyans, residents and visitors of their safety during the holiday period, which coincides with increased travel and the ongoing rainy season.
The NPS noted that the period is typically marked by increased movement, social gatherings, and tourism, all of which present unique security and safety challenges. In response, the Service has implemented a comprehensive strategy aimed at maintaining law and order.
As part of the measures, police have intensified operations to enforce road safety compliance nationwide, working in collaboration with other government agencies. Authorities emphasized that road safety remains a shared responsibility.

The Service urged pedestrians, boda boda operators, and public service vehicle (PSV) drivers to exercise caution and strictly adhere to traffic regulations. This includes observing speed limits, using designated crossing areas, wearing protective gear such as helmets and reflective clothing, and avoiding risky behaviours such as driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, distracted driving, and overloading.
Motorists were also advised to conduct routine vehicle maintenance to reduce the risk of accidents caused by mechanical failure.
In addition, the NPS has deployed extra personnel and resources to boost police presence and surveillance in public areas, including shopping centres, places of worship, entertainment venues, markets, transport terminals, and critical infrastructure.
The Service reaffirmed its commitment to protecting life and property and called on members of the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the authorities.
Reports can be made at any police station, through emergency numbers 999 or 911, or anonymously via toll-free lines and WhatsApp channels provided by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations.
